The end zones are painted. The playbooks have been memorized. And the video games have been temporarily turned off. Yes folks, it’s the best time of year again, as Hawkeye football returns to make sure your Saturdays are 100% homework free. In this season preview, we take a look at the Hawkeyes’ chances of building on 2015’s undefeated regular season, and I give you my patented CHIP’s PICKS predictions.

You may think it hard, or mathematically impossible, to improve on an undefeated regular season, but I got a C minus in math, so as far as I know, nothing is impossible except an A. Not only can the Hawkeyes go undefeated again this year, they can even help sick kids by doing so. No, they didn’t add a magical wizard to the roster like I had hoped, but they will be playing next to the brand new University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Opening in early 2017, the new hospital is the tallest building in Iowa City and stands directly across the street from Kinnick Stadium, and next season will give sick children and their families great views of every pass, catch and penalized end zone dance.

With the added incentive of Iowa’s only nationally ranked children’s hospital being right next door, the Hawkeyes can prove last season wasn’t a fluke. So how will this season go? I’m no science guy, but if my calculator watch is correct, the Hawkeyes will have the greatest season in the history of college football. Is that hyperbole? I don’t know the meaning of the word. Literally, what does it mean?
